FINALISTS FOR THE 8 WONDERS OF KANSAS ART ANNOUNCED
INMAN – The Kansas Sampler Foundation announced the twenty-four finalists for the 8 Wonders of Kansas Art on Thursday, August 28, 2008, at the Kansas Sampler Center near Inman. Representatives of the finalists were in attendance.
In alphabetical order, the finalists are:
• Spencer Museum of Art, Lawrence, featuring Thomas Hart Benton's "Ballad of the Jealous Lover of Lone Green Valley," A quintessential painting of an American scene and a hallmark Benton work.
• "Blue Sky Sculpture," Newton. Positions the viewer between sculptural imagery and the sky.
• Boyer Museum of Animated Carvings, Belleville. More

So it's shedding for good the familiar yellow pavilions that for years sheltered the visual arts component of the festival, and doing away with the professional curated exhibition, as well. In their place will be 10 huge shipping containers -- a hot unit that's turning up all over in applications as varied as exhibition spaces to pre-fab homes and apartment buildings.
